To the Members of the European Parliament
As you know, the European Commission's so-called ultimatum to the Government of Georgia has expired and the mechanism for suspending visa-free travel is starting to be activated.
We appeal to the European Commission to postpone the implementation of sanctions for one month, and to remove from the preconditions of sanctions the requirements related to LGBT propaganda and the legislation on “foreign agents”, and to continue the dialogue with the Georgian government on other issues.
The European Commission’s requirements on these issues are not shared by 90% of the Georgian population, therefore, making such demands towards the government is counterproductive and, on the contrary, the government uses them for quite successful and powerful anti-European propaganda. At the same time, important issues that really concern the Georgian population remain out of focus.
We appeal to you with a proposal to concentrate the dialogue with the Georgian government on the following 4 issues:
“Free Georgia” appeals to the governments of Italy, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia to assume the role of mediator in the relations between Georgia and the European Commission in order to achieve a compromise.
Sincerely,
Kakha Kukava
Chairman of “Free Georgia”
