We, the undersigned political unions, having different views and assessments on important issues, unequivocally believe that the responsibility for the constitutional and political crisis created in Georgia lies fully with Bidzina Ivanishvili and his “Georgian Dream”, who usurped power through the falsification of the October 26, 2024 parliamentary elections and brutal, systematic violence against peaceful demonstrators.
We consider it an urgent necessity to immediately release those detained under administrative and criminal law in connection with the protests, as well as to hold the perpetrators of the protests legally accountable.
We believe that the country is actually on the verge of civil conflict. The “Georgian Dream” itself recognizes this when it often speaks of the so-called "Ukrainian scenario", however, one of the provocative factors of the Ukrainian scenario was Yanukovych’s reckless rigidity towards his own citizens. Even if the “Georgian Dream” does not share the doubts about legitimacy that the absolute majority of the Georgian population and the civilized world have, holding new elections would still be the most correct step to defuse the crisis and avoid a sharp confrontation.
Accordingly, we call on Bidzina Ivanishvili and the “Georgian Dream” to return the appropriated power to the people in the only peaceful way - by holding new parliamentary elections in a free, competitive environment, which means: parity election administration, amended election legislation and the appointment of neutral persons as heads of law enforcement agencies in the period before the elections.
We express our readiness to make maximum efforts and cooperate in any public and political format that will contribute to the de-escalation of the current crisis and the return of the country to the constitutional framework.
